Choose a measurement point, not just any reading
A probe at the door, near the evaporator or among goods faces different conditions. Define what the reading needs to tell you and check the location with the refrigeration contractor.
A refrigeration unit fails at night or the cold room door stays open after a delivery. Without monitoring, this may only become apparent during the next inspection. SECURUS cold room monitoring collects temperature readings wirelessly and alerts the people responsible. Your team can investigate and decide how to handle the goods.
Example data for illustration. You set the thresholds yourself in the platform.
Sensors record readings or events directly on site.
Cold room 2 · 9.5 °CVia LoRaWAN to a gateway within range, then through its internet connection to the platform.
The platform checks every value against your thresholds, rules and time windows.
Above 7 °C for 15 minThe responsible person receives an SMS or email with location, time and trigger.
A suitable temperature probe measures inside the cold room, refrigerated warehouse or freezer. A LoRaWAN sensor sends readings through a gateway to SECURUS. Each measurement point is assigned to a site and a room. Temperature histories and alerts are available centrally across multiple branches.
For shielded cold rooms, a sensor with an external probe may be useful: the probe measures inside while the radio unit stays outside. Range, accuracy, moisture protection and reception must suit the application. Reception is checked at the actual installation point before handover.
A brief rise in temperature does not always mean refrigeration failure. Defrost cycles, cleaning and deliveries affect air temperature. You and your refrigeration contractor define appropriate limits and timing rules based on the goods, equipment and operational requirements. One universal limit would be inappropriate.
Probe position affects the result. Readings near the evaporator, at the door and between goods will differ. Measured air temperature is also not automatically the core temperature of a food product. Define what the measurement point needs to tell you before installation.
An additional door contact shows whether the cold room door is open or closed. It complements temperature readings: an open door often explains a temperature increase better than the reading alone. The team can check for obstructions or a seal that needs inspection.
Door contacts and temperature sensors do not replace refrigeration maintenance. They make selected conditions visible. If temperature rises with the door closed, diagnosis remains the refrigeration contractor’s responsibility.
A temperature alert must reach someone responsible outside opening hours too. Set notification groups for branch managers, building technicians or service partners. The message identifies the site and measurement point. Agree responsibilities and cover arrangements before the first alert.
After an alert, the team checks the situation on site. Measures to protect or assess goods follow your operating procedures. A notification alone cannot guarantee a response or that stored products remain unaffected.
Historical readings and CSV exports support temperature records in retail, hospitality, canteens and care facilities. Your team can trace when a deviation began and how temperatures developed afterwards. This supports operational reviews and coordination with service teams.
SECURUS supports documentation within your HACCP plan. This does not constitute blanket HACCP certification. Required checks, calibration, retention periods and supplementary records depend on your business and applicable requirements.
For retailers and branch networks, measurement points are organised by branch and refrigerated area. In care facilities, kitchens and housekeeping may be involved; in municipal properties, canteens, childcare facilities or event venues. The measurements are similar, but responsibilities differ.
Start with areas where an unnoticed failure would be particularly serious. Verify measurement points, reception and alert recipients in a pilot installation before extending monitoring to other rooms and sites.
Plan measurements with kitchen staff, branch managers and refrigeration contractors so readings and responses fit actual procedures.
A probe at the door, near the evaporator or among goods faces different conditions. Define what the reading needs to tell you and check the location with the refrigeration contractor.
Deliveries, cleaning and defrosting are normal operations. During commissioning, check that rules handle these situations while still flagging relevant deviations.
Test measurement, transmission and notification together. Agree who has access at night, investigates the cause and arranges assessment of goods.
Yes, provided the sensor and probe support the required temperature range. They are selected to suit the equipment.
No. The sensor uses LoRaWAN. The gateway needs a suitable internet connection to the platform.
SMS and email notifications are available. Recipients and rules are configured in SECURUS.
We do not claim blanket HACCP certification. Historical readings and exports support your operational temperature records.
Yes. Measurement points can be assigned to rooms and sites and viewed centrally.
Temperature readings alone do not prove a door is open. An additional magnetic contact measures door state directly.
The solution described here monitors fixed cold storage areas such as cold rooms, display chillers and freezers. End-to-end cold chain monitoring, including transport and handovers, requires an additional measurement and documentation plan.
Monitor temperatures in server rooms, plant rooms and storage areas.
Track fault contacts and flow and return temperatures.
Detect water at risk points and send targeted alerts.
Review CO₂, temperature and humidity by room.
Track humidity patterns and assess mould risk.
Fault contacts and condition data from pumps, motors and machines.
Understand equipment electricity demand and consumption trends.
Monitor open and closed states using rules suited to your operating hours.
Detect potential fall events without cameras.
