SECURUS/Use Cases/Occupancy and people counting

People counting and room occupancy for needs-based operation

Which rooms are used and when do most visitors arrive? People counters record passages, while occupancy sensors detect the state of rooms and workspaces. SECURUS brings the data together to support staffing, cleaning and space planning based on actual use.

How it works

From the reading to the right person.

01

Measure

Sensors record readings or events directly on site.

02

Transmit

Via LoRaWAN to a gateway within range, then through its internet connection to the platform.

03

Check

The platform checks every value against your thresholds, rules and time windows.

Counting or measuring occupancy

A people counter records how many people pass through an entrance, in both directions. An occupancy sensor shows whether a room or workplace is currently in use. Which method fits depends on whether you want to understand visitor flows, free rooms or individual workstations.

Data for better decisions

In retail, counts show when staff are needed; in offices, which rooms stand empty and which workstations are occupied, for example in coworking spaces. The sensors work without camera images; you decide in advance how the data is used.

People counting in retail and offices

In retail, visitor counts by time of day support staff scheduling. In offices, occupancy data helps assess how meeting rooms and desks are used. Test measurement under typical conditions, including groups entering together and people sitting still. Regular checks help establish whether the data still reflects actual use.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about occupancy measurement

Does the system identify who uses a room?

No. It counts people or detects occupancy without identifying individuals.

How accurate is the count?

That depends on the width of the entrance and the mounting. After installation, the counts are compared with observed situations.

Do the sensors need power or Wi-Fi?

The LoRaWAN devices shown here do not need Wi-Fi. Many run on batteries; other sensor types need an external power supply. We check power requirements, sensing technology and battery life for the selected model.

Is a passage count the current room occupancy?

Not automatically. Multiple entrances and unrecorded movements can make counts differ from actual occupancy. Select the method for the task.
